Smokin' Hot Trouble: Brazilian Pro João Siqueira 86ed from WSOP Event
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) often delivers high-stakes drama, but sometimes, the action off the felt steals the show. That was certainly the case on Friday during Event 56, when Brazilian poker pro João Siqueira was disqualified for a rather straightforward violation: smoking at the table.
The incident unfolded when Siqueira lit a cigarette, quickly drawing the attention of a floor supervisor. What followed was an argument, with Siqueira eventually dousing the lit butt in a water bottle. The situation escalated further when he then began removing his tournament chips, a clear sign of defiance that sealed his fate.
Security promptly escorted Siqueira out of the event. While his participation in Event 56 came to an abrupt end, it's understood that his ban is limited to that specific tournament. This means Siqueira remains eligible to compete in other WSOP events, serving as a potent reminder that even seasoned professionals must adhere to the rules, particularly no-smoking policies in tournament venues.
