Former NH Senator Andy Sanborn Pleads Guilty to Buying Porsche with COVID Relief Funds

Former New Hampshire state senator and casino owner Andy Sanborn pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday (July 8) to stealing government funds, admitting he used more than $255,000 in federal COVID-19 relief money to buy a Porsche and fund other personal luxuries. Prosecutors say Sanborn diverted more than $255,000 of the money to personal purposes, including purchasing a Porsche. The plea deal was reached after Sanborn's indictment in May. Sanborn, who served as a state senator from 2014 to 2020, is the owner of the Androscoggin Bingo and Casino in Berlin, New Hampshire. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The Androscoggin Bingo and Casino has been shut down since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The casino's status is currently unclear.
