Alberta iGaming Market Expands as Polymarket Geo-Blocks Province

Alberta’s regulated iGaming market is seeing steady growth, even as popular prediction market platform Polymarket rolls out geo-blocks restricting access for users in the province.

According to provincial regulator Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC), a total of 36 iGaming operators have now completed the province’s required dual-approval process, and are either already live or prepared to launch. As of Friday, July 17, 22 of these platforms are actively operating for Alberta players.

An AGLC spokesperson confirmed that additional approved operators are set to come online in the coming weeks, as the province continues to build out its compliant iGaming ecosystem. The geo-blocking move from Polymarket comes as Alberta’s regulated market expands, pushing unlicensed platforms to restrict access to the province to align with local regulatory requirements.
